What is Kokedama?

Kokedama is a form of Japanese garden art that is centuries old and tied into the practice of bonsai. Simply translated, it means 'moss ball' ('koke' means moss and "dama" means ball). It is sometimes referred to as poor man's bonsai. It is a combination of nearai (root wash) and kusamono (a form of botanical art).

Kokedama is an approach to nature that is more sustainable and was created as a reflection of the wabi-sabi principles: The appreciation of imperfections of nature and transience of natural beauty. Simplicity, warmth, earthiness, irregularity roughness, naturality, acceptance and observation.

The end result is a gorgeous plant that is versatile for interior or exterior design. Hang indoors or outdoors, place in a bowl, display on a plate. Kokedamas are a stylish alternative to decorative pots and are easy to care for.
